Adding to what tejaswi said , whey is a fast digesting protein whereas casein is a slow digesting protein . This property of whey makes it the most desirable protein source . Casein can be consumed when there is no continuous supply of protein , especially while we are asleep . 

Milk we drink is made up of two proteins, whey and casein. Whey protein can be separated from the casein in milk. Whey protein is helpful in gaining lean muscle as it contains 9 essential amino acids. It doesn't have any fats or carbs which can increase the body weight.
