Always set a goal like you will burn a preset amount of calories , in a particular interval of time and try hard to achieve it  . Once it is achieved , again set the bar a bit higher . This can keep the whole exercise interesting and keeps us going . Plus the results we get , motivates us to push even more .

This boy followed us throughout the trek in the Himalayas. He made the trek a lot more fun and energetic. Best companion for walking!

maybe add some challenges along the walks? like certain tasks that the players can do while walking.

I used to do a lot of treadmill running couple of years back. Literally died of boredom.

I would encourage outdoor walks. to keep it interesting - you could walk for 3 mins and run for a minute. I have a playlist of motivational music and talks (eric thomas, les brown, NFL coaches etc)

also put a target you want to achieve in couple of months. like lost weight or do so many steps perhaps.

Management By Objectives works in your personal life too :)

Energy fillers! Yummy! I think food can be fun anywhere, especially, when you are tired. Planning and pre-packing some hiking snacks can be a great help. Walk and chew or chew and walk!

Definitely listening to music is my biggest and best company. I create my own playlist that I use for walking and it helps :)

Walking can be more interesting if you have a challenger or may be an app that connects you to your friends and family.I am using an app called step set go this app gives you coins according to the steps you walk and in future this coins can be used to purchase stuff which itself is a big motivation and the next part will be the stats of your friends and family which give you the exact level,Kms and number of steps.

I introduced this to my mother and thinking I will get the referral point and I got it but now she is at level 5 and I am at level 2.:-)

My go-to answer would be music. It helps take your mind off of things and makes the activity more fun. Also, while in the company of music you hardly notice the effort you've put in.

An alternative would be signing up to apps that really motivate you to hit your goals by offering you rewards.
